Halloween Money Saving Tips

I don’t know if it is the candy or the costumes, but barring Christmas, Halloween is perhaps a child’s favorite holiday. However, the cost of the treats or costumes can spook any family’s budget. Here are some ideas to help scare away the high cost of Halloween.

Get Creative with Costumes

My children start planning for their Halloween costumes on November 1st every year and so should you. November is a great time to pick up costumes at clearance sales. You could enjoy discounts of as much as 90% by shopping for next year’s costume in this year’s clearance sale.

However, if you need a costume now, a great way to save money is by having a costume swap party. Chances are other parents in your social circle are also looking for costumes for their children. With a costume swap party, you can trade outgrown costumes for ones you need for free.

Another way to save money on costumes is by shopping at thrift stores. Throughout the year thrift stores gather costumes and bring them out at this time. If you don’t find a costume, you can always find and pay less for the elements you need to make your own costume.

The Trick for Getting Snacks for Less

As Halloween draws near, you will notice that almost every store near you will have a candy/snacks sale and you will also find money saving coupons in your Sunday newspaper or favorite printable coupon website. Another way to save on fun stuff for the kids is by buying the big bags of candy and snacks.

If you are looking for non-edible goodies (such as erasers, spider rings, etc) for less, try dollar stores, party stores or online outlets.

Decorations and Food

The sky is the limit as far as getting creative with Halloween decorations. Grab the kids and take them for a day of fun at your local pumpkin farm. Then use those pumpkins and some craft items and help them create the spookiest carved pumpkins they can come up with.

Get ready for the big day by doing some fun projects for them. Check out these Halloween Spider Stacks using Keebler Fudge Shoppe Cookies. Green Halloween Monster Treats and Scaredy Treats start with the always versatile Rice Krispies Treats marshmallow bars. Finally impress the older kids and adults with this Jack-O-Lantern Cheese Ball.
