Summer Money Saving Tips

The summer is my favorite season to entertain. I love having people over during the summertime because throwing a party in the summer is cheap and easy. Here are a few ways to take the heat off your wallet when throwing a summer party.

Summer Parties on a Shoestring Budget

1.  Take advantage of in season fruits and vegtables like freshly picked corn or juicy watermelons to satisfy your guests' appetite for less.

2.  If you are feeding a crowd, consider buying less expensive cuts of meat, ground beef, sausage or chicken in bulk.

3.  Offer a vegetarian option for your guests, like these Spinach Patties.

4.  Decorate with what's in season and what you are serving. A plate stacked high with corn on the cob, lemonade pitcher with sliced lemons, a bowl filled with tomatoes and colorful peppers are all beautiful centerpieces for any table. There is also no need to spend any money on cut flower -- fill a beautiful vase with your favorite garden flowers for free.

5.  Kick back and let everyone serve themselves by planning a family meal buffet style.

6.  Make sure to serve foods that are easy to carry and easy to eat, like pigs in a blanket or shish kebabs.

7.  Rely on old time favorites like potato salad or this Tex-Mex Black Bean Dip served with Town House Crackers.

8.  Anything that can be prepared in advance is always a great idea to allow time for you to enjoy your guests.

9.  What a better way to spend the time together outside than by playing fun games? A good sack race, horse shoe toss or game of bocce ball is sure to keep everyone entertained. For the little ones, running around the sprinkler or playing balloon toss will keep them busy and cool.

10.  Wrap up your summer bash with sweet watermelon slices and make s'mores by the fire. Melted marshmallow and chocolate over Keebler Grahams is a childhood favorite that is sure to please everyone. Here is a great idea for an old favorite - Marie's Summer Marshmallow S'mores.

To me, there is truly nothing better than spending time with family and friends on a fun summer day. By being organized and having everything ready ahead of time, you will have time to relax, enjoy yourself, and give your guests a party to remember.
