Tips for Fun Family Time Ideas

Life is busy these days at my house. Whether it’s my blogging, the kids school and sports schedules, or running the household, there is always a lot going on in our family. Despite our hectic schedules, I still try to take time each day to spend some quality time together with my kids. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, just something simple that can become a cherished memory.

Things to do for quality family time -- in 30 minutes or less

Here’s a list of 10 quick and easy activities we've done at our house when we only have 30 minutes (or less) for some quality time with the kids.

1. Read stories:
There's always time to snuggle on the couch with a storybook or two. Grab one of your own childhood favorites to introduce to your child or let them pick out their favorite books of the day.

2. Nature collecting:
Write down a list of items that you can easily find outside your door. Give your child a plastic zip baggie and head outside to start collecting everything on your list.

3. Dance party:
Turn on some tunes and dance to the beat. Not only is this fun for the whole family, it’s great exercise as well. Have fun dancing your heart out.

4. Watch the sunrise:
I know it’s early, but it can be a lot of fun to watch the sun rise in the morning. And because it may not happen very often, it becomes all the more special. Set your alarm early one morning, get the kids out of bed, and sit on the porch to watch the sunrise over breakfast together.

Have More than 30 Minutes? Plan Family Movie Time!

Going to the movie theater as a family can be a special outing for kids. Or cuddle up together on the couch and watch a movie as a family. It could be a classic from your own childhood or the latest DVD release. Click here for 5 tips for making the most of your Family Movie Nights.

Whether heading to the movies or recreating the cinema experience at home, remember to research the movie you plan on seeing beforehand to ensure it’s age appropriate for your kids. After the movie, have a conversation with them about it. Who was the main character? Describe the plot. What was their favorite part? What was the conflict and how was it resolved?
