Mother's Day

10 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Having two children has given me a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made by mothers that came before me, and it makes me admire the matriarchs in my family even more. Mother’s Day is about honoring those that raised us, taught us right from wrong, sacrificed for us, and sometimes spoiled us just to see a smile on our faces. I know first hand what that smile can do – it makes my world go round, and I would do anything for it.

Gift for Mom

Here are a few ideas to show the Mother in your life what she
means to you:

1. Special Meals: Indulge the special mom in your life with whatever her edible guilty pleasure might be. Be it a meal at her favorite restaurant, a delicious box of chocolates, take her out for a special meal or dessert, and tell her to leave the calorie-counting at home.

2. R&R: Every mother loves to be pampered. Treat Mom to some rest and relaxation by inviting her on a Spa Day.

3. Homemade Gifts: What grandmother can say no to something made by her grandkids? Have the kids make cards using construction paper, markers and stickers, and help them make a homemade treat for their special Nana. White Chocolate Mousse Tarts are delightfully decadent and super easy to make.

4. Flowers: Buy her a plant of her favorite blooms. They will last longer than a few days, and cost much less than a bouquet from the florist.

5. Jewelry: Charm bracelets are all the rage now. Give Mom a charm bracelet with charms symbolizing those nearest and dearest to her heart.

6. Vacation: Take her somewhere she’s never been but always wanted to go. It could be a day trip to a nearby city or if money allows, a long weekend somewhere exotic.

7. Home Improvements: Is there something around the house what needs to get done? Then do it. Remodel the bathroom or paint the living room for her, and have her sit back and relax. If necessary, hire a handyman or contractor to get the job done right.

8. Clean House: Give Mom some much needed time off by hiring a housecleaning service. Be it a one-time thorough cleaning or services for a year, Mom will appreciate some time off from her household chores. Check online for local services and prices.

9. Support her hobby: Buy Mom a bunch of supplies for her favorite hobby and make her a goody bag. Or, enroll her in a local class or workshop to hone her skills.

10. Time: Mom’s favorite gift of all? Quality time with the kids and grandkids. Spend the day together having a backyard barbecue, or have a picnic at the local park. The gift she’ll cherish the most are the wonderful memories with her loved ones.

It’s my experience that significant others tend to need to be reminded that Mother’s day is coming up. If you’d like to be recognized this Mother’s Day, email this list as a reminder to someone special.
