Birthday Wishes & Snacking Ideas When I was a kid, I loved my birthdays and can remember each of them so clearly. Now as a mom, I want to create the same memories for my own two daughters. The tricky part for me is that their birthdays are only one day apart — one week before Christmas! (I know, I know, what were we thinking?) Making my girls' birthdays special and memorable certainly presents a unique challenge in our home. Last December, my 4-year-old's birthday party ended up being a great success. The kids had a blast and it was truly a low-stress, low-cost event, which is just what I needed. Three cheers for fun, stress-free birthday parties! |
Here are a few fun ideas from that party:

Birthday treats. My daughter had requested a strawberry cake but instead of getting all fancy, and therefore stressed, I simply made a two-layer cake (using a cake mix, of course!) with a vanilla pudding and sliced strawberry filling between the layers. After icing with buttercream frosting, I "drew" a couple of strawberries and her name on top. My daughter had the strawberry cake of her dreams and I didn't get stressed one bit. And the bonus? The cake was delicious! |

Always Have the "Packs" Ready
A big part of planning a successful birthday party includes planning ahead and being prepared with the snacks. Try going the Variety Snack Pack route, depending on the size of your party. Variety Snack Packs deliver four packages each of Chips Deluxe Mini Rainbow Cookies, Cheez-It Original Crackers and Fudge Shoppe Mini Fudge Stripes Cookies. Keep these snacks stationed around the room during the party.
Or try tossing out Kellogg's and Keebler's 100 Calorie Packs. At 100 calories per pack, your children will get scrumptious snacks you can feel good about. Choose from Cheez-It, Chips Deluxe, Fudge Shoppe and Sandies!
Birthday Fun with Games
Toy Horseshoes Anyone? Let the kids try their luck with a birthday game of plastic, toy horseshoes! This nostalgic game is simple, fun and will help children develop hand-eye coordination.Let the kids try their luck with a birthday game of horseshoes.
Birthday Party in the Park - Here's a great no cost and built-in activity for any birthday party. If it's a hot day, just choose a shady spot in the park to set up. Bring along fun toys for the kids to play with, such as footballs and Frisbees, and let them run their sillies out. Also, it might be smart to outline a backup plan on your invitation, just in case the weather gets bad!
Chalk it up to fun - An inexpensive box of colored chalk can keep the party going for hours. From decorations to pictures and Tic-Tac-Toe to hopscotch, there's something for everyone in a simple box of chalk. The only limit is their imagination!
Knock 'em over with backyard bowling - Find household items that will tumble over easily, such as empty cereal boxes, empty soda cans and small stuffed toys and align them in a row like bowling pins. Next, get a plastic, toy bowling ball and turn your birth day into a bowling party. Let the kids build up the pins and then crash them down again!
Create an outdoor canvas - Hang an old sheet on a clothesline or tape paper to a fence for your budding artists to paint. Encourage them to try painting with different kinds of brushes. It's easy clean up and no worries!
